Biman Banerjee confirms Bengal budget session to start on Feb 10; Governor’s address and key discussions ahead

The West Bengal Assembly’s budget session is set to begin on February 10, with the Governor’s address marking the start of proceedings. The session will be divided into two parts: the first part will run from February 10 to 19, while the second part will commence 15 days later, following a brief break. This split structure will allow for focused deliberations on both legislative matters and the state’s budget.

The state government’s budget will be presented on February 12. It is expected to cover the state’s financial plans for the coming fiscal year, including key proposals on revenue, expenditure, and economic development. Areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare are likely to be central to the budget’s focus. This session is particularly significant as it will set the tone for the state’s financial priorities and resource allocations.

Speaker Biman Banerjee also confirmed that MLA Jyotipriya Mallick will be participating in the budget session. Banerjee clarified that no order has been received from the Calcutta High Court that would prevent Mallick’s attendance. Mallick has been involved in ongoing legal matters, but the Speaker’s statement confirmed his eligibility to participate in the legislative proceedings. Additionally, Banerjee took the opportunity to criticize the Uttar Pradesh government's handling of the Kumbh Mela, an event that has drawn national attention for its management.
